City of Syracuse implements change to floating parking lane on Comstock Avenue

The city of Syracuse made changes on Tuesday to the floating parking lane on Comstock Avenue, Syracuse University announced.

The parking lane, which was created in October along with changes to Waverly Avenue, has been transitioned into a “deliveries-only” parking lane. Signs have been installed to announce the changes, which went into effect on Wednesday. The change comes following input from the public and the city’s internal analysis, according to an SU News release.

The original purpose of the changes to Comstock and Waverly was to reduce speed and increase pedestrian and cyclist safety in the University Hill area, according to an Oct. 14 city press release.

Public reaction to the initial lane changes had been mixed. In November, DPS said no injuries or accidents had been caused from the reformatting of the lanes. However, there were still concerns about how snow would be plowed, as well as about how traffic would be affected when, for example, a fire truck had to stop along the road since it was reduced to one lane in each direction.
