Syracuse makes offer to sharpshooting 2015 guard Richardson
Syracuse has extended a scholarship offer to shooting guard Malachi Richardson, his AAU coach Aaron Burt told the Post-Standard.
Richardson is considered one of the top basketball players in the Class of 2015, and one of the group’s better shooters.
Richardson tweeted this out Monday after the Orange made the offer.
SU head coach Jim Boeheim and assistant coach Mike Hopkins watched Richardson compete for Team Final in South Carolina this weekend, according to The Post-Standard.
The 6-foot-6 Richardson attends Roselle (N.J.) Catholic High School, the same high school of incoming SU freshman Tyler Roberson. Roberson and Richardson led Roselle Catholic to the New Jersey Tournament of Champions title last year.
ESPN.com gave Richardson a 94 grade and ranked him the No. 11 in his class. Rivals.com and Scout.com rate Richardson as a four-star recruit, with Rivals.com putting him at No. 19 overall.
In addition to Syracuse Richardson has offers from Atlantic Coast Conference programs Maryland and Miami, former Big East rivals Georgetown, Connecticut, Cincinnati and Rutgers, as well as Arizona and Indiana, according to his ESPN player profile.
Burt told The Post-Standard that Florida also made an offer, and North Carolina and Duke have also showed interest.
SU has recruited players from the Philadelphia-based Team Final AAU program, including Dion Waiters, Rakeem Christmas and Trevor Cooney.
