College Hockey America announced on Tuesday that six Syracuse players were placed on the conference’s end-of-season teams. The Orange are tied with Mercyhurst for the most players to make the different teams.

Defenseman Jessica DiGirolamo and goaltender Arielle DeSmet earned places on the All-CHA first team. Forwards Abby Moloughney and Lauren Bellefontaine finished on the All-CHA second team. SU also saw two forwards, Madison Primeau and Sarah Marchand, make it on the conference’s All-Rookie team.

It is the second time that Syracuse’s captain has made the All-CHA first team. DiGirolamo, who decided to come back and play a fifth season for the Orange, led the team and the CHA in shots (143) and shots per game (4.93). She finished as the top-scoring defenseman on the team, finishing with six goals and 10 assists. This includes a four-game stretch early in the season where the fifth-year senior scored at least one goal each game. She will go into the CHA tournament at Tennity Ice Pavilion with 33 career goals, one shy of the CHA record for defensemen.

While DiGirolamo has made the conference’s first team before, this is the first time that DeSmet has made it. DeSmet’s honor is also the first time a Syracuse goaltender was put on the first team since Kallie Billadeau in 2013. The goaltender led the CHA in save percentage (.939) and was second in saves per game (29.58). DeSmet also passed the 1,000 career saves milestone on Dec. 3, 2021, in a 43-save performance against Mercyhurst.

Moloughney and Bellefontaine, two of the Orange’s top three scorers, once again earned end of the season CHA honors. This is Moloughney’s fourth straight year with conference team honors, while this is the second time for Bellafontaine. Moloughney led Syracuse in goals (13), assists (15) and points (28), with most of her points coming in the latter half of the season. Bellefontaine dominated in the faceoff circle with 373 wins and she finished second in faceoff win percentage (.564) in conference play. She ended third on the team in points with 22.

As two of SU’s senior forwards made the second team, Marchand and Primeau earned spots on the All-Rookie team. Marchand was tied with Moloughney for the most assists on the Orange. Marchand became second on the team in points and gained a place on the top forward lines. Meanwhile, the third-line center Primeau contributed 10 goals, scoring half of them during CHA games.
