Quentin Hillsman led Syracuse to its best season in program history in 2015-16. The team tallied a record of 30-8 and reached the NCAA championship game.

After leading Syracuse to its first Final Four appearance, Orange head coach Quentin Hillsman and Syracuse have reached a contract extension, an SU athletics spokesman confirmed. The Syracuse Post-Standard first reported the news. Hillsman reportedly did not reveal the terms of the deal.

“It was just a great gesture by the administration,” Hillsman said to the Post-Standard. “I wanted to be here. I knew they wanted me to be here. If someone brings you the right deal, there’s nothing to haggle about. I want to be here as long as they want me to be here.”

Last season, SU finished 30-8 overall and 13-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. In the NCAA tournament, Syracuse reeled off five wins over Army, Albany, No. 1 seed South Carolina, Tennessee and Washington. Its only loss was to Connecticut in the NCAA championship game.

In his 10 seasons at Syracuse, Hillsman has compiled a record of 219-116, and his teams have won 20 games in eight of his 10 years, as well as seven straight. SU has made the NCAA tournament in each of the last four seasons and made the NIT in the six seasons before.

So far, SU has announced three games for the 2016-17 season. The Orange will play George Washington at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Florida on Nov. 25 and then will play either Florida Gulf Coast or Ohio State on Nov. 26 in the same event. Hillsman and the Orange will also play Michigan State in the Carrier Dome as part of the ACC-Big Ten Challenge on Nov. 30
