Meet the Student Association Cabinet of the 59th session
Student Association President Aysha Seedat recently announced the cabinet for SA’s 59th session. Here’s a breakdown of who the members of the cabinet are:
Name: Juwan Thompson
Position: Chief of Staff
Year: Sophomore
Major: Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises and Marketing Management
Goals: “As Chief of Staff, I am currently working on creating and enhancing tools of communication for cabinet and assembly, create more socials for Student Association members to engage and interact, ensure deadlines are met, initiatives come alive and setbacks are minimized. I aim to improve the image of the Student Association, internally and externally, but above all ensure Jane and Aysha’s vision becomes a reality.”
Name: Eric Evangelista
Position: Recorder
Year: Junior
Major: History and Political Science
Goals: “…I hope to work with Syracuse to improve the University Lecture series, as well as the overall academic caliber of the school.”
Name: Jack McCormack
Position: Co-chair of Public Relations
Year: Junior
Major: Public Relations
Goals: “During my time at SA, I hope to positively impact the lives of students here at Syracuse. My co-chair Haley and I are constantly brainstorming with our committee members thinking about new ways to help the students. I hope to be able to implement some of these ideas as I believe they would lead to a better, more accessible campus for everyone here at SU.”
Name: Haley Robinson
Position: Co-chair of Public Relations
Year: Junior
Major: Public Relations
Goals: “Although I am new to SA, I hope that my co-chair Jack and I can bring some energy and great, new ideas to the program. We are excited about some of the ideas we have for this year, and we are primarily focused on educating students on what exactly SA does on this campus, and also how they can get more involved with other clubs and organizations.”
Name: Keelan Erhard
Position: Student Life Chair
Year: Junior
Major: Retail Management and Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises
Goals: “One of my main goals this semester is to be more proactive. In the past, I feel as if Student Association has asked students to come to us with their problems, but I would like to go out to the students first to see what they’re experiencing firsthand. I hope to accomplish this by having my committee members start to spend their office hours outside of the office more and speaking to their constituents at social areas on campus and in their respective home colleges.”
Name: Paulina Colon
Position: Board of Elections and Membership Chairwoman
Year: Junior
Major: Social Work and Child and Family Studies
Goals: “This is the last semester of my term as Board of Elections and Membership Chair and I want to focus on the membership aspect of my board. I plan on strengthening the internal aspect of SA so as we get new members, they build a strong background and so we are able to retain assembly representatives that are in the organization right now. My board is working on two retreats for this semester and some leadership workshops to be able to train our members, so I am looking forward to these events.”
Name: James Franco
Position: Parliamentarian
Year: Sophomore
Major: History and Political Science
Goals: “By the completion of the 59th session, I hope to accomplish a few key things. One is the updating and improvement of the bylaws and constitution in order to make the organization run more smoothly and efficiently. I would also like to draft and form a document or agreement defining the partnership and relationship between SA and other student governments on campus, such as Whitman and Newhouse.”
Name: Justin Baumann
Position: Co-chair of Technology
Year: Senior
Major: Political Science
Goals: “My main goal is to provide more transparency with the technological resources the university offers for its students. There are many new and exciting technologies on campus that are underutilized by the majority of students, which is limiting their potential in an increasingly advancing society.”
Name: Anthony Reid
Position: Co-chair of Technology
Year: Sophomore
Major: Civil Engineering
Goals: “During my time as technology co-chair I would like to improve the Student Association website. The Student Association website is a very important tool that is helpful when trying to inform the student body about useful information. As a technology co-chair, I will advance the Student Association website and make it functional.”
Name: Sonia Suchak
Position: Academic Affairs Chair
Year: Sophomore
Major: Policy Studies and Citizenship and Civic Engagement
Goals: “As the Chair for Academic Affairs, I intend to expand our summer research program, try to subsidize online prep classes for MCAT and GRE and continue publicizing Lynda.com, which also happens to be our latest initiative. I hope to see more long-lasting and substantial results from this committee.”
Name: Alexis Cardwell
Position: Community Engagement Chair
Year: Junior
Major: Social Studies Education and American History
Goals: “My first goal as Community Engagement Chair is to work on RSO outreach, and discover new ways in which SA can offer assistance and opportunities for the student organizations on this campus. My second focus is launching a program called “Cuse Cares”, which will be the program under which I do all of my community service initiatives, including Impact Week, our large event in the Spring.”
