Scott Shafer not optimistic about Terrel Hunt’s injury

Senior quarterback Terrel Hunt left Friday's game in the first quarter after sustaining an injury while escaping the pocket.

Senior quarterback Terrel Hunt went to the locker room on crutches during the first quarter of Friday’s season opener against Rhode Island. He wasn’t wearing a sock or cleat on his right foot and didn’t return to the game.

Afterward, head coach Scott Shafer wasn’t too optimistic about Hunt’s injury.

At the 7:33 mark of the quarter, Hunt escaped the pocket and seemed to roll awkwardly on his right ankle. The signal-caller was ejected in last season’s opener for punching a Villanova player and broke his fibula and tibia against Louisville on Oct. 3.

He missed the final seven games of the season as the Orange sputtered to a 3-9 finish.

True freshman Eric Dungey, who won the backup job over sophomore Austin Wilson, went 10-of-17 and threw for 114 yards and two touchdowns.
