Michelle Tumolo, former Syracuse player, hired as assistant coach
Syracuse has hired former Orange attack Michelle Tumolo as an assistant coach, it announced in a press release. Tumolo replaces Katie Rowan, also a former Syracuse player, who left SU to become the head coach at Wagner.
The former SU attack played for Syracuse from 2010-13 and was a Tewaaraton finalist in 2012. She will coach the offense and take over as recruiting coordinator for the Orange. Tumolo spent the past two years coaching Florida’s offense. Last season the Gators finished third in the country with 15.52 goals per game. SU ranked 20th in goals per game last season with 12.71, its lowest total since 2011, and finished its season with a 10-7 loss to Maryland in the NCAA semifinals.
Tumolo ranks fifth in career points (278), seventh in career goals (141) and second in career assists (137) at Syracuse. The Orange made four straight NCAA semifinals in Tumolo’s playing career, including one trip to the national championship game in 2012, which Syracuse lost, 8-6, to Northwestern.
Tumolo suffered a torn ACL in the middle of her senior season in 2013.
“There is nothing like coming back to your alma mater, alongside Gary Gait, Regy Thorpe, and the rest of the Syracuse lacrosse family,” Tumolo said in the release.
