The Great New York State Fair
The Great New York State Fair is a nearly two-week long, fun-filled celebration for New Yorkers. This year, it’s back. Enjoy the fair’s last week with breathtaking exhibits and savory fare. Megan Moroney, Rick Ross and other artists will also perform. Syracuse University offers shuttles for students with a valid SUID between College Place and the fair at no cost. Tickets are $6 per person. Grab your friends for a week of excitement.

Reiki Chair Sessions
In preparation for a busy fall semester, head to the Barnes Center at The Arch for Reiki Chair Sessions. Reiki is a meditative healing practice to promote peace, relaxation and inner-balance. Ease into a tranquil session and let all your first-week worries slip away. This event is free and open to all current SU students.

When: Aug. 27 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Poetic Black Fusion Writers Workshop: Black August
Join the Coalition of Museum and Art Centers for this month’s Poetic Black Fusion Writers Workshop: Black August. Learn about the works of Nikki Giovanni, Gil Scott-Heron and various other Black creatives during this session. The workshop is free and open to the public.

When: Aug. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Where: Community Folk Art Center

CNY Artist Talk: Cali M. Banks
Calling all art lovers! This Wednesday, the Everson Museum of Art is hosting Cali M. Banks for an artist talk about her new exhibit, “I’ve Learned to Hold Myself Softly.” Banks is a local photographer of Scottish and Munsee Lenape heritage. Through still-lifes and self-portraits, the exhibition highlights Banks’ return to Syracuse and themes including youth and change.

Orange After Dark: Welcome Back Social
Get into the swing of the new year with the Orange After Dark: Welcome Back Social. Hosted in The Schine Underground, get to know new students and catch up with friends over mocktails, ice cream and more. A valid SUID is required to attend.
