Syracuse University on Monday announced the 35 students selected to be Remembrance Scholars during the 2018-19 academic year.

The university annually selects students to represent and pay tribute to victims of the 1988 Pan Am Flight 103 bombing, which killed 270 people in the air and on the ground in Lockerbie, Scotland. Among those who died were 35 SU students returning to the United States from study abroad programs.

The 35 scholars represent various SU schools and colleges, including the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, the Martin J. Whitman School of Management and the College of Arts and Sciences. More than half of the students are members of the Renée Crown University Honors Program, according to an SU News release.

All Remembrance Scholars receive a $5,000 scholarship based on “distinguished academic achievement, citizenship and service to the community,” according to the release.

Two Lockerbie Scholars are also selected from Lockerbie, Scotland, to study at SU for a year.

The scholars will be recognized during a convocation in Hendricks Chapel on Nov. 2.
