Medasin's remix of "Wild Thoughts" by DJ Khaled, Rihanna and Bryson Tillier has over three million listens on Spotify.

Electronic DJ Medasin has remixed popular tracks on Soundcloud including Post Malone’s “I Fall Apart” and “Wild Thoughts” by DJ Khaled, Rihanna and Bryson Tiller. The 19-year-old will perform at Lollapalooza in Chicago as well as Paradiso in Seattle this year, but before that he’s set to perform at University Union’s 2018 Block Party, alongside artists Gucci Mane and SZA.

The Dallas native has been producing music and experimenting with beats since the age of 12. Here are five things you need to know about the artist before he gets to Syracuse.

He started making music at 12 years old

Though the artist isn’t particularly proud of his early music, he said in an interview with The Dallas Observer that he quickly became enthralled at a young age. Medasin even moved the family computer into his room, where he began exploring electronic music and eventually promoting his tracks on MySpace.

He found his way back to music after going to rehab

Just a few years after finding his love of music, Medasin became involved in drugs. Shortly after, at the age of 14, he was sent to an outpatient rehab by his parents. By 16, he was back on track, and he began to use music as an outlet through producing, recording and networking.

He got his foot in the door through a music competition

In 2013 Medasin competed in iStandard, a competition platform with events across North America that aims to give artists exposure. After he won the Dallas competition and advanced to New York, he began to make connections. He didn’t win there but was introduced to a producer that got him started in a SoundCloud collective.

He puts the beat first

Medasin is focusing his music on the beat. He said he believes that popular artists can make a song heard, but the reason why people love a song is because of the beat.

DJ Khaled released Medasin’s remix of “Wild Thoughts”

DJ Khaled, Rihanna and Bryson Tiller released their hit “Wild Thoughts” in June of 2017. A month later, Khaled officially released five remixes of the chart-topper, one of which was Medasin’s. The remix has over three million listens on Spotify, and kept “Wild Thoughts” hovering at the top of the charts through the summer.
