None of the Syracuse players were ready to use the Bahamas hangover as an excuse for a laid egg in its 66-58 overtime loss to Wisconsin on Wednesday.

But SU head coach Jim Boeheim was quick to accept blame for the tough scheduling that will see Syracuse play four games against then-No. 18 Connecticut, then-No. 25 Texas A&M, Wisconsin and Georgetown in a 10-day stretch.

“You know really it’s a tough game, and really this whole scheduling thing is my fault,” Boeheim said. “You cannot go to the tournament like we did, and come home and play Wisconsin and then go and play Georgetown. I put the players in a terrible position and, you know, we just have to play our way through it.”

Syracuse was outrebounded, 51-25, on Wednesday while shooting just 7-of-24 from 3 and 11-of-20 from the free-throw line. Michael Gbinije said the travel wasn’t on his mind. Malachi Richardson said he wasn’t going to make any excuses. Trevor Cooney simply said games like Wednesday’s will help the Orange in the conference season.

But Boeheim is the one that makes the schedule. So he took all the blame.

“It’s horrific scheduling,” Boeheim said. “That’s my fault.”
