SU student reports attempted strong arm robbery Friday night

A Syracuse University student reported an attempted strong arm robbery on the 700 block of Lancaster Ave. Friday night, police said.

The student was walking northbound on Lancaster around 7 p.m. on Friday when he was approached from behind by four men on bicycles, according to the Syracuse University Department of Public Safety. One of the suspects tried to grab the student’s cellphone, according to DPS, and the student was punched in the back of the head, causing him to fall to the ground and suffer a small cut to his hand.

The four suspects, who are described as being about 16 years old, fled the scene toward Clarendon Street away from campus, according to DPS.

There was no property stolen and no threat of a weapon, according to DPS.
