The Mount Olympus stairwell will re-open by the end of the day Friday, according to an email sent Thursday to Mount residents.

The email, which was sent by Assistant Residence Director Robert Terreri, said the staircase and landing at the top of the stairs will receive additional attention after commencement in May.

The stairwell has been closed following a car accident early Monday morning in which a vehicle driven by an SU student crashed into the top of it and drove through four telephone poles, went down the steps and flung a newspaper dispenser about 25 feet.

A crane was brought in Wednesday to remove and take away damaged sections of the stairwell. Mount Olympus Drive was closed to vehicle traffic for three and a half hours.
