Individuals involved in Sheraton shooting not affiliated with Syracuse University
UPDATED: May 5, 4:20 p.m.
An early morning shooting outside the Sheraton University and Hotel Conference Center that left one wounded did not involve members of the Syracuse University community, Department of Public Safety Chief Tony Callisto said.
Shots were fired outside the Sheraton around 3 a.m. on Saturday and DPS and Syracuse Police Department cars arrived at the scene soon after. Ten casings were recovered from the scene. Police vehicles blocked off University Avenue between Walnut Avenue and Marshall Street until after 4 a.m.
There was one victim who was hospitalized with injuries to the feet, Callisto said. Daquan Sullivan, 25, was taken to Upstate University Hospital after the shooting. As of 4 p.m. Saturday, Sullivan was listed in good condition, an official at Upstate said.
Those involved in the shooting were not affiliated with the university and fled off campus before police arrived at the scene, Callisto said. Because those involved fled into the city and there was no immediate threat to campus no Orange Alert was sent to students, Callisto said.
DPS will be putting out a public safety notice sometime Saturday.
