Van searched on Walnut Avenue early Saturday

A burgundy Chrysler minivan with New York plates was stopped and searched at the corner of Walnut Avenue and Marshall Street just before 3 a.m. Saturday. Two men were waiting outside the car, one handcuffed.

Five Syracuse Police Department cars and one Department of Public Safety car blocked the street between Walnut and University avenues as officers searched the van. The van’s driver side back bumper was slightly crumpled.

An officer at the scene declined to comment and asked reporters from The Daily Orange to leave the scene, as they were impeding the investigation. The officer said the minivan was pulled over for a routine vehicle inspection.
