SUmail delayed after Microsoft techical issues

E-mails sent using Syracuse University’s e-mail system, SUmail, have been delayed since approximately 3 p.m. Monday due to an issue with Microsoft’s Outlook Live system, which hosts the program, according to a news release from Information and Technology Services.

ITS does not know the cause or when SUmail will be fixed because it is Microsoft’s problem, said Chris Finkle, communications manager for ITS.

ITS has been trying to get more information from Microsoft on the cause of the delay but has been unsuccessful, Finkle said.

‘They just keep telling us, ‘We’re working on it, we’re working on it,” Finkle said.

Other universities that use Microsoft Live are also experiencing difficulties with their e-mail systems, but the problems are manifesting differently, Finkle said. SU’s sent e-mails are being delayed, while mailboxes at other universities are appearing empty when they are not, he said.

Finkle assured that although mail is being delayed, it is not lost. If mail has been sent since the issue started, it will reach the recipient when the problem is fixed, Finkle said.

‘If it appears lost, Microsoft will restore it and resend it,’ Finkle said.

Microsoft has issued no official statements, according to the ITS news release.
