Raffle to determine student seating for Villanova game to take place at 6 p.m.

A raffle to determine student seating for the Villanova game will take place tonight at 6 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.

In lieu of the hype surrounding the game – which officially sold out at a Carrier Dome-record 34,616 tickets on Feb. 3 – the Carrier Dome events staff and Otto’s Army, a student fan group, devised the system to ensure organized proceedings leading up to Saturday’s 9 p.m. tipoff, Otto’s Army president Trenton Gaucher said.

All students who show up at the 6 p.m. raffle will get an individual number, which will be entered into a pool with the rest of the attendees. Once the number is received, it dictates the order in which students will be able to camp out inside the Dome’s gate P and eventually how close their seats are, Gaucher said.

The lower-level seating, located directly behind the home basket and press area, seats up to five full student groups and will be the first to fill up. Full student groups are members of four students who camp out together.

Normally, the order is first-come, first-serve when students camp outside the Dome’s gate E in order to obtain the closest seats. But expecting the largest on-campus crowd for a collegiate basketball game in the nation this season, the venue decided it was in its best interest to organize a system to avoid safety hazards.
