After back-to-back losses, SU faces toughest field yet

As if a two-game losing streak wasn’t enough, two young Syracuse swim teams must face some of the top competition in the nation at 10 this morning.

After losing to Pittsburgh and then Florida Atlantic, both the men’s and women’s swimming teams travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., to compete in the Nike Cup, a three-day meet similar in structure to the NCAA Championships.

Along with SU, North Carolina will host Duke, East Carolina, Kentucky, Kenyon, LSU and Virginia Tech. Competition kicks off today with primarily freestyle competition and continues with relay and medley races tomorrow and Saturday.

The men, trounced by Pittsburgh and beaten handily by Atlantic, will attempt to succeed without a full roster. The women, whose most recent loss was somewhat unexpected, must rebound against the toughest field the team will face all year.
