Syracuse tennis has added Jackie Calla to its coaching staff as an assistant coach, the team announced Thursday. It’s the first time Calla’s ever been hired as a collegiate assistant. She replaces Maddie Kobelt, who left SU on August 4 for the same position at Nebraska.

Calla joins the Orange after spending the past year as a tennis professional at Carrollwood Country Club in Tampa, Florida. She competed professionally prior to becoming an instructor, touring for seven years in South America as part of the Peruvian Fed Cup Team. In that period, she was also a developmental coach at Westchase Tennis in Tampa, helping top-ranked junior players.

Additionally, Calla played collegiately at Amherst from 2015-17. She earned All-New England Small College Athletic Conference honors for singles performance in all three seasons with the program. Calla led the Mammoths to the NCAA Division III semifinals in 2015 and to the quarterfinals the following year.
